About us
We built this because we needed it.
Every endurance athlete knows the feeling.
The night before a race, you are standing in your kitchen with gels, drink mixes and bars spread across the counter, hoping you have got it right. Because after months of training, the last thing you want is to lose your race to your nutrition.
We have been there too.
DataFuel started with two friends who have spent their lives chasing performance. Numa became a two-time Belgian equestrian champion before trading the saddle for running shoes and a bike. Simon spent years as a competitive swimmer before dedicating the last decade to marathon running.
Like many endurance athletes, we measured everything. Every training session, every split, every heartbeat, every recovery score. Everything except the one thing that can decide how a race ends.
When Numa started preparing for a half marathon, he had no idea what to take, when to take it or how much. Simon had been using sports nutrition for years and still found himself battling stomach issues and energy crashes at exactly the wrong moments. It did not make sense: we have more training data than ever before, yet most athletes still fuel using product labels, online forums and educated guesses.
The deeper we looked, the clearer the problem became. Fuelling is not just personal, it is dynamic. What your body needs today is not what it will need next month, and as your training changes your fuelling should change with it. The data to do that already exists, in your Garmin, Polar or Strava account, but nobody was actually using it to personalise nutrition. That felt like a problem worth solving.
So we built the product we wished had existed. Numa shaped the vision, Simon built the engine that turns training data into personalised fuelling recommendations. No black boxes, no generic plans, no hype. DataFuel connects with the platforms athletes already use, understands how they are actually training, and keeps adapting as their training evolves. Everything is grounded in sports science and built around one simple idea: your nutrition should train as hard as you do.
Today that idea is already trusted by our first beta athletes and supported by partners like Etixx and Sanas. Being selected for Start it @KBC gave us the confidence that we were not the only ones who believed endurance nutrition deserved a better approach. But we are still building for the same reason we started: no athlete should spend months preparing for a race only to lose it because they guessed wrong about their fuelling.
Our mission is simple: to make personalised fuelling effortless.
Our ambition is bigger: to make data driven fuelling the new standard for endurance performance.
The two of us.
